The Korean University Festival

Date:

The Korean University Festival : After the cherry blossoms fall and the midterms are over, Korean universities often plan the biggest event of the semester! This event is usually held twice a year, only once a semester, and every time it is held, it attracts the attention of the whole school. Here’s a quiz! What is this event? Yes, that’s right. It’s a festival! The festival is the biggest event held during the semester, and it is the site of the festival, from student performances to celebrity recruitment. During the festival season, students enjoy their eyes, ears, and tongue with various things to enjoy, things to see, and eat. Then, let’s take a look at this festival today!

History of Korean University Festival (Daedongje)
Daedong means to become one, which has been used a lot since ancient times. In Korea, the university festival was first held at Shinheung University (now Kyung Hee University) in October 1956, and the university festival in the 1960s and 1970s was just called a festival or a festival. However, in the 1980s, the unique nature of the right to exercise played a part in the use of the name “Daedong” in universities.

Because it tried to connect with folk culture, Korea University held a university festival for the first time since 1984 by using the word Daedongje. In any case, schools at the time, which were dominated by activists, called the university festival Daedongje in the sense of becoming one, and this expression quickly spread. After that, in the 1990s, as popular culture that makes choices according to individual tastes developed and university culture declined, Daedongje lost a lot of folk or political colors.

In the case of liberal arts universities, social activists and others sometimes visit during the Daedongje, but the general response of students is Aoan, and companies and others have participated since the 2000s. The degree to which events are held mainly for publicity purposes. Yonsei University, Ewha Womans University, Sogang University, and Hongik University near Sinchon sometimes hold university festivals in Sinchon.
Universities in Gwangju, including Chonnam National University, Chosun University, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, and Gwangju National University of Education, tend to hold the event in September, not in May. The reason can be understood by considering what May is like for these schools and Gwangju Metropolitan City.

Preheat of the The Korean University Festival – Student Performance
First, who is the owner of the festival? It’s a student! Of course, it is important to see celebrities, but the festival provides a stage for talented students and clubs in each field. Not only the most basic dance and vocals, but also various clubs such as bands and plays prepare for the stage. However, there’s an organization that comes to mind when you think of festivals, and it’s the name that’s also known as a recent drama, “Yeah. Won. Dan.” They show great performances not only at festivals but also on many stages. In addition, Korean universities recruit festival planners every time, and they make various contents for more fun festivals. Therefore, I recommend that international students who want to plan the festival support the soccer team, and international students who are talented in dancing and singing should prepare a good stage and apply as a performer during the festival stage recruitment period!

Flower of The Korean University Festival – Celebrity Performances
At festivals, you go to see celebrities! What a cost-effective cultural activity since you can see celebrity performances that are hard to see at school festivals for free? And if your favorite celebrity is invited to our school, it’ll be icing on the cake! However, the live performance of the vocalist, who does not have a big fandom compared to the idol, is more fantastic than expected.

Celebrity performances? Hoot, the real thing is at a bar!
There are quite a few people like this in Korean universities. Festival? Celebrity? I’m not interested, and we’ll enjoy the celebrity’s voice as BGM at the bar! Isn’t it really unique and cool? Yeoreum was busy seeing celebrities at the last festival, but all of her friends enjoyed drinking at the bar… Yeoreum was really jealous of those people who were firm and unruly. But it’s no secret that Yeoreum is going to see celebrities at this festival, too!

Well, that’s it for today’s post! The lineup of each university festival is already being revealed, so what celebrities will perform at your school? Please share it in the comments, and we’ll say goodbye now!

Do you know about four major insurances policies in Korea?

Have you ever heard of the word "four major insurances"?If you've watched news and TV a lot while living in Korea, you've probably heard it at least once. But what's the big four insurance policies? Does it matter to foreigners?I'll tell you more about the four major insurances today. What are the four major insurances? Korea's four major insurances refer to all four insurances directly managed by the government to ensure a stable economic life for the people from social risks. In Korea, people with income, companies, and institutions are required to pay four major insurances! It's a mandatory subscription insurance that all workers must sign up for, regardless of whether they are interns, non-regular workers, or regular workers!Foreigners also have to pay four major insurances if they work for a Korean company! When you look at job postings on recruitment sites, there are often the same conditions as "four major insurances included." Some companies offer four major insurances instead, or some companies have such conditions, such as 50%. What are the four major insurances? The four major insurances include national pension, national health insurance, employment insurance, and industrial accident compensation insurance. In the case of international students, if they live in Korea for more than six months, they are obligated to pay national health insurance every month. If you get a job in Korea, you have to pay the national pension, employment insurance, and industrial accident compensation insurance in addition to the national health insurance. Then what kind of benefits do you think each insurance provides? The four major insurances don't usually get any benefits right away, but they can get benefits depending on the conditions of the insurance the national pension The National Pension Service pays 4.5% of its monthly salary as an insurance premium almost every year. The national pension, which is later paid for retirement, is a system created in preparation for not being able to work if a worker retires after a certain age. In other words, when you retire later, you have the amount you can get every month, and that amount will be returned to the National Pension Service we paid for! employment insurance It is a system created for...
