Permission for part-time employment of international students (D-2) and language trainees (D-4-1)

  • This is a civil complaint filed by a foreigner staying in Korea when he/she intends to engage in activities corresponding to other residence qualifications in parallel with activities corresponding to his/her residence qualifications.
  • International students who want to get a part-time job must obtain a part-time job permit from the competent immigration office or the head of the branch office, and if the part-time job place changes, they must report the change of the part-time job company.
  • If an international student with a part-time job permit wants to extend the permit, it may not be allowed if it is deemed difficult to combine study and employment as a factor below 70% of the attendance rate and average C+ as of the recent completion semester.
  • For more information on part-time employment, please contact the Foreigners General Information Center (1345) or refer to Hi Korea’s website Information Madang > Immigration/Residence Information > Foreigners’ Residence > Permission for Activities Outside of Residence.
  • If an electronic civil petition causes a system failure or failure to report, etc., visit the Foreigners General Information Center (1345) without the national number
    Please refer to it.

Foreigners who get visas in Korea can work part-time under certain conditions. However, if Korean students want to work part-time legally, they need to get a work permit.

International student visas are divided into D-2 visas and D-4 visas, and only international students with D-2Q visas can apply for work permits. It’s a bit difficult to apply for a D-4 study abroad visa. And you can only work up to 20 hours a week. But I can work full time during winter and summer vacation.

Those who apply for work permits must be processed offline or online.
Offline applications must be processed by your local Foreign Affairs Department (Foreign Immigration Authority).
You must apply online at the https://www.hikorea.go.kr/ website.

Documents required to apply for a work permit are passport, visa (foreigner registration card), enrollment certificate, school-signed employment document, TOPIK report (no need), copy of business registration card, standard contract, and part-time employment confirmation.

The above documents can be applied on the website or two channels within the foreigner management department.

I would like to inform you that the minimum hourly wage in Korea is 9620 won per hour.If you are below this hourly wage, you can report a business operator or communicate with the boss.

Then I’ll tell you what’s dangerous and what you should be careful about when exchanging money in Korea.

For our international students, it can’t help but cost money to live in Korea. Then, how can I change Korean money to Korean money? There are two ways.

The first is to exchange money at a bank, which is usually the safest and cheapest place, but the exchange rate of the bank is updated in real time, so we don’t worry about it because the exchange rate is low or high. However, the bank has to pay a fee when exchanging money, and the fee has to be paid every time.In Korea, the exchange fee is usually about 15¥.You can refer to it.

The second is personal currency exchange, which is the least recommended method. This is because in Korea, accounts are closed every year because international students exchange money through different channels.Your account balance has been frozen. What’s more serious is that it violates Korean law and is subject to legal sanctions. But it is more appropriate to exchange money with your best friend.I think I can save the fee.

For those who travel to Korea, I recommend you to bring a credit card or pay with Alipay. You can exchange small amounts at a bank outside the airport just in case. But the exchange rate is lower than the real-time exchange rate, so don’t exchange it at the airport currency exchange

How to exchange money safely
First, go to the bank
Visiting the bank I usually trade with! Because if you use the main bank (to designate a bank and have a continuous transaction history), they give you a preferential exchange rate according to your bank rating

Supplies:
1)Passport or resident registration card
2)Submission of study abroad certificate documents, such as enrollment certificate

Second, using internet banking

If you apply for currency exchange on the Internet, you can pay a cheaper fee because the exchange rate is more favorable than the bank by receiving the amount exchanged at the branch (e.g., Hana Bank).

Access the Internet banking of each bank account opening bank (e.g., Hana Bank) and click the foreign exchange exchange screen
Select a place to receive exchange funds, exchange purpose, date of receipt, type of currency, application amount, withdrawal account, and password to apply for exchange
Enter the password for the public certificate and end the transaction
Print out a receipt and go to a branch (e.g., Hana Bank)
Show your ID card (passport or ID) and get the exchange amount

Do you know about four major insurances policies in Korea?

Have you ever heard of the word "four major insurances"?If you've watched news and TV a lot while living in Korea, you've probably heard it at least once. But what's the big four insurance policies? Does it matter to foreigners?I'll tell you more about the four major insurances today. What are the four major insurances? Korea's four major insurances refer to all four insurances directly managed by the government to ensure a stable economic life for the people from social risks. In Korea, people with income, companies, and institutions are required to pay four major insurances! It's a mandatory subscription insurance that all workers must sign up for, regardless of whether they are interns, non-regular workers, or regular workers!Foreigners also have to pay four major insurances if they work for a Korean company! When you look at job postings on recruitment sites, there are often the same conditions as "four major insurances included." Some companies offer four major insurances instead, or some companies have such conditions, such as 50%. What are the four major insurances? The four major insurances include national pension, national health insurance, employment insurance, and industrial accident compensation insurance. In the case of international students, if they live in Korea for more than six months, they are obligated to pay national health insurance every month. If you get a job in Korea, you have to pay the national pension, employment insurance, and industrial accident compensation insurance in addition to the national health insurance. Then what kind of benefits do you think each insurance provides? The four major insurances don't usually get any benefits right away, but they can get benefits depending on the conditions of the insurance the national pension The National Pension Service pays 4.5% of its monthly salary as an insurance premium almost every year. The national pension, which is later paid for retirement, is a system created in preparation for not being able to work if a worker retires after a certain age. In other words, when you retire later, you have the amount you can get every month, and that amount will be returned to the National Pension Service we paid for! employment insurance It is a system created for...
